Pineapple Cheese Wontons

This recipe has everything - sweet pineapple, spicy jalapeno, sour cream cheese - and combines into a delightful finger food that everyone will enjoy.

You'll need:

  • 1 c (1 recipe) pineapple jalapeno chutney (or use pineapple pie topping)
    • 2 - 8 oz cans pineapple tidbits
    • 1 jalapeno, seeded and sliced
    • 1/2 c sugar
    • juice of 1 lemon
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • wonton wrappers
  • Oil, for frying (canola or vegetable oil is best)

Make the pineapple chutney and let cool slightly. Click here for the recipe. It only takes about ten minutes to make your own, but if you're in a rush, you can use pineapple pie topping or pineapple preserves - it will just be sweeter.

Mix the softened cream cheese with the chutney until well combined.

Mix chutney with the cream cheese. Set out the wonton wrappers and a small bowl of water for the assembly line. Put about 2 teaspoon (or a scant tablespoon) of filling in the center of each wonton wrapper, then use your finger to brush water along the edges and seal in a triangle shape. (Click here for a detailed tutorial on folding wontons.)

Heat oil to 350 and fry about 2 minutes, until browned and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

Enjoy!
